A practical guide

How to use PDF to Word

  1. Choose a PDF with selectable text. If your document is scanned, run OCR to Searchable PDF first.

  2. PDF64 rebuilds extracted text and supported tables as an editable Word document and can include some images.

  3. Download the DOCX and review the formatting in Word or a compatible editor.

What gets converted?

Selectable text is rebuilt as editable paragraphs, and supported ruled tables become editable Word tables. Some images can also be included. The result is a reconstructed document rather than a pixel-perfect copy of the original PDF.

What may look different?

PDF and Word use different layout models, so fonts, columns, spacing, page breaks and image placement may differ. Scanned PDFs need a searchable text layer before conversion, and encrypted PDFs are not supported.

Limits and processing

Files can be up to 25 MB and 200 pages. PDF to Word uses temporary server processing. The uploaded input is removed after processing, while the generated DOCX remains available temporarily for download until the job expires.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Word document editable?

Yes. Extracted text becomes editable paragraphs and supported tables become editable Word tables. The reconstructed layout may still need adjustment.

Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?

Not always. Fonts, spacing, columns, page flow and image placement can differ because the document is reconstructed from PDF content.

Can PDF64 convert scanned PDFs?

Scanned PDFs need a searchable text layer first. Use OCR to Searchable PDF, then convert the result to Word.
